    BJJ is an acronym that stands for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
  • What is BJJ?
    Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be defined in many ways. Most commonly as a self defense system, a martial art, human chess and so forth. Here at ALLIANCE BJJ SF BAY, we look into Jiu Jitsu as a problem solving game. In this game, the problems are situations, solutions are techniques and the guidelines of application for the techniques are the 3 principles of BJJ.
  • What are the benefits of practicing BJJ?
    When you practice BJJ you develop 3 pillars that are essential for life. 1. Physical As you practice, you will develop more body awareness, mobility, strength, balance and many other attributes. 2. Mental As you practice, you will also develop and enhance problem solving skills, cognition, logical thinking, perfoming under pressure, mindfullness, etc... 3. Social Every class you will interact with your training partners, instructors and work toward a common goal which is becoming a better version of yourself!
  • Is BJJ a safe practice?
    Here at ALLIANCE BJJ SF BAY one of our main concerns is maintaining a safe environment for practice. Our students only spar after a certain amount of experience, follow the established ruleset for their given level and embrace the culture of a learning environment instead of a competitive envionment.
  • How long does it take to get a black belt?
    In BJJ, the average to reach a black belt is 10 years of practice.
  • What sort of things should I consider when choosing a school?
